Save a video or image from a link — for content you are allowed to download.

Overview

What it is

MediaLink is NextAppLab's video downloader. You paste a link, see which formats and qualities are available, and save the file, with no account and nothing to install. It handles single public posts from supported platforms, and it is meant only for content you are permitted to download. A beta runs publicly at downloader.nextapplab.net, but MediaLink is not yet released as a finished product: it is still in development, and its legal and hosting reviews are not complete.

Features

What the app already does

  • One link, one file

Paste a link; the platform and the type of content are recognised, and you choose a format or quality before the file is prepared.

  • Several links

A list of links is worked through one by one. A link that fails does not stop the others, and duplicates are pointed out.

  • Cancel and try again

A running job can be cancelled and started again, and a finished file can be downloaded again without preparing it anew.

  • Short-lived files

A prepared file is stored only temporarily: after 30 minutes it can no longer be retrieved and is deleted automatically.

  • Tested sources

Successful tests exist for individual Dailymotion videos and Pinterest image pins. The result applies to those tested cases, not to every post.

Flow

The core flow

  1. Paste a link

Copy the link to a single public post and paste it into the field.

  2. Choose a format

MediaLink shows the formats and qualities that are available for this link.

  3. Prepare the file

The file is prepared on the server; you can cancel while it is being prepared.

  4. Download

The download starts only when you click, and the file expires after 30 minutes.

Where it stands

State of development

Short and honest: what still stands between today's state and a release.

Still open

  • Support is only partly proven: TikTok videos and Pinterest video pins are tested only in part, and the further platforms the code provides for are not yet reliably tested (single cases at most).
  • No profiles, boards, playlists, livestreams or stories. Content behind a sign-in, a paywall, copy protection or a CAPTCHA is not downloaded, and such protection is not worked around.
  • Limits: up to 200 MB per file and ten minutes of content. A platform can block a request, and then the link fails.
  • The legal review of the legal texts and of the platforms' terms is not complete, and the hosting provider has not confirmed in writing that the service is permitted.
  • While it is a beta, there is no commitment on availability.

Availability and limits
