Meet seriously and respectfully, with Arabic as the first language.

Overview

What it is

Ashked is meant as a place for Arabic-speaking singles who want to get to know someone seriously and with respect, in an app that starts in Arabic instead of translating itself. Trust, clear expectations and respectful encounters are the goal of the product idea. Today there is sign-in with a one-time code, a profile with an automatically checked photo and a search; the list still works on sample data. Chat, matching, reporting and blocking are meant to follow before any release. Ashked is in development and not yet released.

Features

What the app already does

  • Sign-in without a password

A one-time code sent by email opens the account. No password to choose, none to forget.

  • A profile with a checked photo

Gender and photo. The picture is chosen from the gallery, cropped in the app and checked by an automatic moderation service before it appears.

  • One profile at a time

Like, pass, and take a decision back. Profiles appear one card at a time instead of as a grid.

  • Search that narrows it down

Country, age and distance can narrow the list. Further filters, including nationality, intent and religion, exist in the development version; how they are shaped has not been reviewed legally and has to be settled before any release.

Product concept

What it is meant to become

Planned functions. They are not implemented yet and are not part of what works today.

  • Conversations

A chat for people who have shown mutual interest. It does not exist yet.

  • Mutual interest

Two likes should become a connection. That step is not built yet.

  • Report and block

Anyone who feels uncomfortable should be able to report and block a profile. This has to be in place before a release.

  • An age check for 18+

Ashked is for adults. The check is planned and does not exist yet.

Flow

The core flow

  1. Sign in

Enter the address, receive a one-time code, done.

  2. Set up the profile

Add gender and a photo; the photo goes through moderation.

  3. Look around

The discover list shows one profile at a time: like, pass, or undo.

  4. Narrow it down

The search narrows the list by country, age and distance.

Where it stands

State of development

Short and honest: what still stands between today's state and a release.

Still open

  • Not released: Ashked is not in the App Store or on Google Play, and there is no public download.
  • There is no chat yet, and no matching: two likes do not become a connection.
  • The discover list and the search work on local sample data; a running connection to a server has not been shown.
  • Report, block and an 18+ check are missing.
