A food diary where you photograph the meal instead of typing it in.

An illustration of the CalSnap app on a phone: a photographed salmon bowl is logged with 482 kcal and its macronutrients.
Illustration of the app — not a screenshot.
Overview

What it is

CalSnap turns a photo of a meal into an estimate of calories and macros, and keeps the day in view: a ring, the macro split and the last seven days. Goals come from your own body data, and a catalogue covers the meals you eat often. In development, not yet released.

Features

What works today

  • A photo instead of a form

Photograph the meal and CalSnap estimates calories and macros from the picture. The analysis runs on a server, through OpenAI, not on the phone.

  • The day at a glance

A calorie ring, the macro split and a seven-day history show how the day is going without opening a single entry.

  • The diary

Move between days, create meals, change them, delete them — the everyday work of a food diary.

  • 20 dishes in the catalogue

Twenty common dishes are stored with their values. Three of them carry verified Swiss nutrition data; the rest are estimates, labelled as such.

Flow

The core flow

  1. Photograph

Take a picture of the meal, or pick one from the gallery.

  2. Estimate

CalSnap reads calories and macros from the photo and files the meal in the diary.

  3. Check the day

The ring and the macros show where the day stands against the goal.

  4. Keep going

Seven days of history make the pattern visible, not just today.

Where it stands

What exists, and what does not

Two lists, in the app's own state. The second one is not optional.

Available today

  • A photo instead of a form
  • The day at a glance
  • The diary
  • 20 dishes in the catalogue

Not finished yet

  • No release: CalSnap is not in the App Store or on Google Play.
  • The release manifest is built without the internet permission — a published build would not reach the server the photo analysis runs on.
  • Account deletion is not available.
  • On iOS, returning to the app after confirming the email address does not work yet.
  • Privacy policy and imprint exist in the app only as placeholders.
  • The nutrition values are estimates. Only three catalogue dishes carry verified data.
Note

Worth knowing

The values in CalSnap are estimates, not measurements — a photo cannot weigh a portion. The app labels them that way, and the page does not claim otherwise: accuracy of the photo analysis has not been measured.
